  • You have to plug your Alexa controlled Amazon Echo into a power outlet.
  • Then open the Alexa app.

Alexa controlled Amazon Echo connects to dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz) networks which use the 802.11a / b / g / n standard. Alexa controlled Amazon Echo does not connect to ad-hoc (or peer-to-peer) networks.

  • Within the Alexa app, open the left navigation panel and then select Settings.

Now select your device and then select Update Wi-Fi. If you need to add a new device to your account, select Set up a new device instead.

  • On your Alexa controlled Amazon Echo, press and hold the Action button until the light ring changes to orange. Your mobile device will then get connected to your Amazon Echo device. A list of all available Wi-Fi networks will display in the app.

The Alexa app may ask you to manually connect your device to your Alexa controlled Amazon Echo device through your Wi-Fi settings.

  • MAC address: If you need to add your Alexa controlled Amazon Echo device to your router’s list of approved devices, scroll down on this screen until you see the MAC address.
  • Optional – Save your Wi-Fi password to Amazon: Any Wi-Fi passwords saved during setup automatically appear when you connect a new Alexa controlled Amazon Echo device to the same Wi-Fi network. The password will also be remembered even if you switch between saved Wi-Fi networks.
  • Optional – Connect to a public network: Enter all the required information if you are connecting to a public network that requires a web browser in order to sign in, like a school or hospital. The information could be a pre-shared password, office number, or just a button to accept conditions for using the network. This information will never be saved to Amazon. Contact the network owner for more information.
  • Then select Connect. After your Alexa controlled Amazon Echo device connects to your Wi-Fi network, a confirmation message appears in the app. You’re now ready to use Alexa.

Initially, if you have bought Smart Bulb along with Amazon Echo, you need to setup Amazon Echo first. In order to setup Amazon Echo, follow the below steps.

  1. Download Alexa app on your smartphone from Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
  2. Open Alexa app and login to Alexa using Amazon credentials.
  3. Once you have logged in, tap on the hamburger icon and choose Settings.
  4. Tap on Set up a New Device
  5. Choose your Echo model from the list and choose a language.
  6. Now connect to WiFi - If you are using an iOS device, you need to head to Settings app of your iOS device and connect to WiFi that has a name 'Amazon-AnythingHere'.
  7. Return back to Alexa app and continue to finish setting up Echo.

Now, you have configured and connected Echo to your WiFi. All basic commands to Alexa will work, you may even try 'Alexa, what's up?'

  1. As said earlier, I am using Wipro Garnet 7W Smart Bulb.
  2. To connect this, download Wipro Next Smart Home App from App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android).
  3. You may need to create a new account using your phone number. Add a device to your Next Smart Home app. The setup is usually interactive and while the app detects the smart bulb, the bulb will rapidly turns on and off, to let you know that it is being detected.
  4. Once the setup is complete, you can control your light from the app but this is not cool, we want Alexa to control the light. Hence, go to the next step to link smart light to Alexa.

  1. Open up Alexa app on your smart phone.
  2. Tap on hamburger icon and choose Skills & Games.
  3. Search for Smart Life.
  4. Enable Skill and this lets you to link Wipro account to the skill. Alexa app will prompt you for phone number and password.
  5. Provide the phone number and password that you used on your Next Smart Home app.
  6. Head to Devices tab in the app and tap on + sign which adds a new device.
  7. Make sure to enable Smart home skills.
  8. Alexa app will scan for devices and once it finds, add it to your app.
  9. That's all, you have finished linking smart light to Alexa.

Now, these are the things you may need to try - assuming you have provided your bulb's name as just 'Light.'

  • 'Alexa, turn on light'
  • 'Alexa, turn off light'
  • 'Alexa, reduce the brightness of light'
  • 'Alexa, change the color of the light to Blue'

If it is cool to have an Alexa at home, it is much cooler to link smart light to Alexa. By linking your smart devices, you have built a complete smart home.
